Well I tried my hand at hatching and am let down and optimistic at the same time. Today made day 26 with no results so I decided to do some exploratory surgery. Out of 18 eggs 5 developed completely. They had beaks, toes, claws, etc. the yolk sak was still visible. I kept my temps between 99-102 with a thermostat. My humidity was almost always around 40 until lockdown when I bumped it to 65.. any suggestions?

If you haven't checked the accuracy of your thermometers and hygrometers I would start there. And then I'd concentrate on humidity. Fully developed chicks DIS at hatch time usually points to humidity issues. The best thing you can do is monitor the air cells for proper growth and I'll give you a link to help with that. I run my standard eggs at about 30% for the first 17 days and 70-75% hatch. BUT I monitor cells to know when and how to adjust if needed.
If you have a forced air bator, the closest you can keep it to 99.5-100 the better it's going to be for the eggs. If you have still air, taking temps at the tops of the eggs and keeping it between 101-102 is best.
