i just got my hovabator 1588, im going to set my eggs on saturday so i wanted to fire it up tonight to make sure everything is good. its preset to 100 degrees. i bought a indoor hygrometer for the humidity, my question is do i put it IN the bator to read the humidity, or outside of it? im not sure where it will fit inside but ill make it work if thats where it should be.

Depends on what sort you have if it has a lead with a metal probe on the end just put the probe in the incubator. If its on of the dial ones or a single unit one put it all in preferably where it can be easily viewed from the window

Is this a digital Hydrometer?

I use one from walmart hydrometer thermometer combo about $7 and works very good.

dont forget to calibrate your hydrometer first , to make sure is accurate.
To calibrate you will need

1 Medium size ziplock bag

1 empty coffe cup

1/2 cup of salt

1/4 of water

Instructions

put salt in the cup , put water un the cup , put cup inside the ziplock bag and put the hydrometer inside the bag next to the cup .
close the bag and wait 24 hours

if the hydrometer is good it should read 75%

if the hydrometer is higher than you know how much to substract from the reading

EXAMPLE

I put one of my hydrometers in the bag after 24 hours it was 68% than I know is 7 points off
so every time I check my incubator and i seee 40 % I know that is acctually 47%

hope this works

feel free to ask

there is no dumb question

i prob have the exact one that you have, i got it at walmart for $8, its an Acurite. i did not know that about calibrating it, i will do that tonight thanks

you can also get it in walmart and fits well inside the bator on top of the eggs or on the side of the turner
