I don't have a broody hen but I have a very active rooster and was thinking about incubating my own eggs.
Once the hen lays the egg do I have to get it immediately into an incubator? How long do you think an egg would be viable without a hen on it?

They are usually good 10 days at room temperature before you have to incubate. Happy incubating

Awesome! What if it's cold outside and by the time I find he egg it already feels cold? Would I still be able to incubate it?

I still try it. I bring them in and build up a couple days worth and then incubate

I took 2 eggs that I had in the refrigerator for a couple of days and just as an experiment gave them to my broody hen well lo and behold 1 of them hatched just today. So I guess it depends on the egg. Good luck

Thanks! I'm excited to get started then!!!
