First timer - starting my first batch Sept 15

I have 5 hatched and in the brooder 3 self blue (lavenders), 1 black, and 1 light colored one that I don't know if it is white, splash, or porcelain. All three colors are unlikely with what was in the breeding pen, but i can't think of anything else she could be.

I had to clean a booty today too. Very nasty little bottom that had dried nastiness on it.

I have 3 still in the incubator. One is wobbly, but the other two aren't moving at all. One had a HUGE air cell when I candled and Im not hugely optimistic.

we have a brooder similar to yours! Ours is the gqf though, and use, so it's not nearly so shiney and new.

We're STILL at just 2 chicks (3 including BIL's) and NOTHING else has pipped in the approx. 18 other eggs we've got. I was going to wait until tomorrow to float test, but there is one egg that was a day ahead and I'm going to pull that one out to float test it and figure I might as well candle and test the rest while the top is off!

Had to clean a chick's lil bum off today. I don't know if it was 'pasty' per se, but there was poop stuck to it, and it got a little yolk(?) and some fluid on it when hatching and looked kinda gross because then it dried and hat this stiff yellow stuff dried all over its back.

I'm going to give feather sexing a try with these too, band them, and see if I was right or not. I know it can be hit or miss with wyandottes, so I'm going to give it a guess.

I have solid sides for my brooder that I used to change out the screens, I'm guessing I'll save some electricity if it's sealed up a bit. Have you ever tried to put some insulation on the top of your brooder to try to keep some heat in? I noticed that the top gets pretty hot and I'm betting it's losing a lot of heat up there. I'm thinking maybe some kind of fireproof board on top would help?

Move more out to the brooder just now. 15 healthy chicks, 1 we'll decide about culling tomorrow, 1 pipped egg, and 8 doing nothing yet. Might float test them tomorrow. We got one stunning lavender baby from the 4 splits from DMRippy.

I have 19 in the brooder now, I have 2 more pipped, 11 with no signes of life. I will check them out tomorrow night. I will take some pictures tomorrow.

Im half way through day 22 with nothing but a deceased little one that we opened ourselves. It hadnt moved in several days so we assumed the worst and wanted to check the membrane for moisture. It was perfect but it didnt make it. Hard to understand why. Hoping the others havent met the same demise? :-(

OMG....the egg that fell and cracked has pipped more than what was cracked!

Got a beek peeking out! How cute. Noticed another Buff pipping! Yay, up to 3 out of 6. Now they just have to hatch out and be healthy.

I love seeing the little peekers out the pip hole. So cute!

Had our last pipped one hatch and hopefully it will be dry enough to put in the brooder soon. Then I think we'll float test the last 8, but leave them in until tomorrow or Monday even.
