First Timers: 16 Hens and 1 DIY Coop Later....

Hi BYC! As a first-time chicken owner, this website has been SO helpful. A huge THANKS to all you chicken experts out there.

My boyfriend has several acres of farmland in rural southeast Nebraska, and I've been bugging him about getting chickens for a few months now. Well, he caved and we've been proud chicken parents for the last few weeks. I thought I'd share a few highlights from our journey...

We started out with 5 Rhode Island Reds, which quickly multiplied to **16** hens! Go big or go home, I guess.
Once basic chick needs were met, we (he) quickly got to work constructing the 6'x12' coop. Chickens are not meant to be indoors...

Oh my gosh!!! So cute!!!! Very pretty birds! I also like your coop a lot! So glad you've joined the group, I hope you enjoy it even more now that you've become a part of it!
