Hey Everybody!!

We're new to being chicken owners, actually don't have any yet...just researching and learning so we can be the best chicken parents we can be!! :)

We've been checking out coop ideas and which kind of chickens to get. Of course the cute little babies are where we want to start, but have heard that they can have difficulty surviving.

We live in northwest Indiana and can only have a max of 6 female chickens. Our primary interest in owning chickens is for their eggs....and enjoyment of being a chicken owner.

Wondering if there are certain types of chickens that we shouldn't keep together and if anyone local has Rhode Island Reds or something comparable.

Any suggestions are welcome!!

Thanks so much!!!!

For folks starting our, I like to recommend Plymouth Barred Rocks, commonly called Barred Rocks, and Buff Orpingtons. In my very mixed flock, the former are very friendly. The latter - in anybody's flock - are just lovely, big fluffy hens.
