I am so excited to have come across this site. I lived on a mini farm and raise chickens, ducks, geese, and goats. I love that feeling skipping down to the chicken coop and seeing how over joyed the chickens would come dancing. After my parent divorced our farm got smaller smaller. I moved out and became a professional dancer. The hubby and I live in PA, he's a scientist, I dance for a local company. We've been remaking our backyard, and for while we had our chicken dream on hold. Well last weekend we took the leap. We adopted 3 silkie chicks. We are in love with them and although we hope they all turn our to be hens, due to the fact we will prob have to give up the rooster with have one, we are on could nine. Soaking up all the chirps and peeps. We are first time back yard chickeners!

I have been working hard on ideas and making a design to make sure our coop will be safe and secure. But I am all ears to any advice or experience you had in pest proofing your coop. We have a great Vet who has been amazing and loving to our two doggies, Lady and Sprout. My husband is super new to all this, it's important for him to develop a bond with them, and would love to hear any advice on how to start that bond with them, ease their trust. I posted a few pics below of our family.

With our two doggies, we are also looking for guidance on how to make sure the bond between our pets is RESPECTFUL and caring. They are both very excited dogs and so far have interacted with horses, goats, alpacas. For now, we are doing session where the dogs sit with us and we watch the chicks together. First time i was a little worried, or doggies were whimpering a little and only wanted to get closer to them. Of course my momma instinct kicked, in making sure they weren't trying to eat them. The second time they did so much better. Our Brussel Griffon mixx dog, Sprout, eventually start getting overly excited again. But over all they sat very good and just observed....thoughts or concerns about this method? I hope you enjoy the pics of our mini family. I look forward to being part of such a great community.
