First winter with chickens--need some advice

I have no zoning issues but I didn't want to create an eyesore for my neighbors. So I planted honeysuckle all along the fence of the run. Its barely 1 season old so it hasn't covered much - but in 5 years it will be a huge thing & cover a ton!

You can get really creative on the coop too - maybe just add a second dog house. They don't all need to sleep in the same room!

Its good you don't have a dominant hen - rest assured one of them is at the top of the pecking order. I actually had to remove my top 2 hens when introducing new birds to the flock. They just didn't want to accept the newcomers. In any case - I think you can relax. It doesn't sound like you have an attack issue at all. If they are all getting along & you have entertainment (cabbages) for the winter then you shouldn't have any issues by this spring.

Unfortunately, it is quite illegal. My township requires 3 acres of land in order to allow farm animals & chickens. I called the township & they specified chickens in this ordinance. If you have 3-5 acres, you are allowed to have 1 farm animal for each acre of land. So by that logic, if I had 3 acres (which I don't--I have around 1), I could have 3 cows OR 3 chickens. If you have more than 5 acres, you can have as much as you'd like. That's Springfield Township for you
