This year is our first year with chickens, ducks, and guinea's! I have had a chicken in the past, but only one, who turned out to be a rooster, and my grandfather had quite a few chickens. We got our chickens in the end of March, were given two pekin ducks in the middle of April, and we just got our guinea/s in the beginning of July! We have converted an old metal shed into a coop, built a duck house out of materials we already had, and got a small coop for free, which is where the guinea's are currently living. We also have a 625 sq ft garden, with flower beds and other plants in pots all around. We also rescued a dog last year, and she is fantastic with all of our other animals! She rarely chases them, and when she does, it's normally just to watch the ducks flap their wings and quack. We have heard many negative things from non-guinea owners about how awful guinea's are, but I love ours!

-Courtney, Green Acres; 2 humans, 1 dog, 1 cat, 2 turtles, 3 fish, 6 guinea's, 3 pekin ducks, 1 buff orpington, 1 silver laced wyandotte, 1 barred rock, 2 black jersey giant's, 2 australorp's, 2 jersey red rocks, 2 speckled sussex, and 2 ameraucana's

Congratulations on your first eggs with many, many, many more to come

. I've heard guineas are the best tick eaters, and also will mob snakes and either kill them or escort them off the property. They are a great alarm system as well. Sounds worth keeping to me.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Congratulations! It's always so "egg"citing to get those first eggs.) If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting many more eggs.

Thank you!! So far my guinea's are great bug eaters, but they're too small to chase away snakes! I'm hoping that in the spring we will get babies, but we still can't tell how many are male and how many are female! We have been getting about 3 eggs a day so far, and I believe that 5 of 13 are laying. it is so egg citing!!
