We had a barred rock that was randomly laying fishy flavored eggs. It was always a very unpleasant surprise for breakfast. No matter what we did with her diet it would happen. We ended up having to cull her because of health and behavior issues, but since then ive been so worried about getting another brown layer with a fishy egg issue. Im looking to reserve some spring chicks and would love to get another barred rock and another Rhode Island, but ive read those are the most likely to have the fishy egg problem. Reaching out to the community to find out how common this issue actually is. Does this happen often with these breeds or did I just win the barred rock lottery this time around?

Eggs from those types have always been tasty. Not sure what would be causing that problem with your's.
I've currently only have one Barred Rock, but no RIRs anymore though.

Do they free range? Maybe they're snacking on a weed or something encountered during foraging that's causing the fishy taste.

No .
I feed them organic whole grains that I ferment before feeding.
I also give them grass clippings, weeds, kale, lettuce, various berries, corn, fruit etc. All is from my garden and all is organic - no pesticides or chemical.

I would start by eliminating snacks for a bit and just give them their feed. See if the taste improves. If not, maybe it's the fermented feed.

I have 4 Barred Rocks and their eggs have never tasted fishy. No one I know have ever complained about their BR or RIR eggs having a fishy taste. It only makes sense that it's environmental in your case (something they're eating most likely).

Your confused.
I'm not the one with the problem. I replied to the person with the issue.

I've had eggs taste fishy before...but only when I'm pregnant lol. I assume that's not your problem but I can safely say it has nothing to do with the breed of chicken cause I don't keep either of those breeds. Definitely must be something else.
