I've read a few times that fish flakes are very good for chickens; especially, layers. I've searched on eBay and Googled, and everything I find is for human food, and is quite expensive.

Does anyone use fish flakes? If so, would you please share your source for it and info. on how much (and when) you feed it? Thanks so much!

I have on occasion thrown my birds the occasional flakes and such... haven't researched it in depth though. I really really though suggest you get a supplement formulated especially for poultry...many feed stores carry Rooster Booster products and they have a general supplement however the one I recommend is Avia Charge 2000 which can be purchased online from McMurray or Strombergs.

dlhunicorn, I already provide the Avia Charge 2000 in their water; if doing this, in your opinion, is that sufficient? I also give sea kelp once in awhile (maybe once every 2 weeks) - I put it in a dog food bowl and they eat it all up!

yes that would be sufficient in my opinion...I think fish flakes are ok as occasional treats (great little source of protein I imagine and highly digestible) but I would not buy it specifically a s a daily supplement simply because I have not done the homework on it. If you are already giving a supplement then any other such should only be to treat a specific disorder or such (as the occasional treat it is fine in my opinion)
