I have two ex battery girls (approx 2 and a half years) who are laying paper thin eggs (break immediately in nest box) I am not even sure if one of them is laying.( I think she may have early signs of EP which is being closely monitered)
I am not bothered whether I get eggs from them but I am aware of the problems these thin shells could cause them if they were to break inside them.
I add limestone flour to their feed as well as oyster grit (and they have surplus grit if they want) I have heard that it may be the absorption of Vit D that could be the problem and that fish oil could help.
I only want to give this to my ex bats (I have 3 other hens) so was thinking I will syringe into their beaks but does anyone know what dosage this should be and how often?
I have been considering hormone treatment for these girls to stop them suffering so they can enjoy their retirement.
Also- how would I know if a hen has stopped laying naturally or if she could be laying internally?
