Two of my ducks finally started laying!! The only problem is they tend to lay the eggs in the pond

Is there anything I can do? So far I have only had to wade in to my knees to retrieve one, but I am envisioning an ever growing pile of duck eggs in the middle of the pond!!! I have no drake, so I know they are not fertile, I like to eat them though!!!! any ideas?

Yea linck has an idea for ya. i would second her idea if your pond is big enough

it is fairly large, a little over waist deep in the middle, I have been throwing around that idea, but I fear then I would have to SWIM to get them!!!

I would try one floating dock nesting box and I would tie a rope to the end so that you can just pull it in if they don't go broody. But a lot of the times when ducks lay a full nest they will often go broody.

Hah. I knew you were from florida even before i read it on under your name. I lived in florida for 10 years. and them wooden fences is deffinately a signature of florida yards.

yeah, there were lots of those fences all over the place when the hurricanes went through!!
I have been thinking on the floating island thing, I think if I made it out of pvc pipes, and maybe some hardware cloth covered with hay for them to walk on, that may be light enough to float, but sturdy enough to hold them. I have a 20lb boat anchor I could attach to keep it from floating to the edge by itself, and then tie a rope to the island and the other end to the tree near the pond so I could pull it in....just might work
