I have five BLRW (three blue laced, two black laced). I am unsure of the sex of each, so I wanted ask for some help. I am concerned that I ended up with all five roos (on all but one hatch this spring I averaged 2/3 roos or more...had really bad luck this year). All the birds are approximately 13 weeks old. Here are some pictures....

I just got my three SLW two hens and one roo. Well all of them are darker than even my roo. But I am just learning about them so lets hope somone who deals with them more comes along.

Hi,
What beautiful birds you have! I love blue birds too! I have about a dozen of these little beauties! May15th from Mcmurrrays. I have been trying to figure mine out too. Going by combs I think #2, #5 of yours are roos. Can't really see on the others pictures, but the narrower combs will girls. I have silver penciled Wyandottes too and they are distinctly feathered for girl and boy so I have been looking at their combs. And comparing to my BLRWs.

I think your other three may be girls, but pointy saddle feathers or hackles on them if you look up close will tell you if they are boys. I can quite see in the pics. Also if they are free range watch behaviour. The girls will happily graze in a group while the boys are on the outer edges of the group "guarding"the girls. Any warning sounds from birds flying over or other possible predators will be from the boys in my experience.

This is a boy of mine.

Thanks for the advice and the responses! I went back out and tried to figure out what I have, but am still struggling to figure out what is what (I think one may be a hen, the other four roos?

). They are in a flock totaling 44 birds, so the protective behavior is a bit hard to gauge (have one flock of 44, another of 10). I love blue birds as well (also have blue copper marans)! I will try to post some closer up shots later today.
