Can I gently try and wash it off, it seems to be really stuck on there....help!! I don't want to make the situation worse!

Yes, you have to wash it off. Use a warm cloth and try not to get the chick too damp so she doesn't get a chill. This condition is called pasting up, and if not treated, it can be life threatening. Make sure you check the chicks regularly for this.

It's called pasting, it can be caused by chicks getting chilled or overheating. You can run a little warm water over its vent to help loosen up the poop and then gently pick it off. You may have to pick a little at a time, just make sure your careful.Good luck!

Pasty butt is easy to fix but can be life threatening if not taken care of. Just hold the chick's bottom under warm (not hot) running water (not fast water though) for a minute or two. Some will probably be washed off but you may have to get a paper towel and gently wipe it off. Some of the tiny feathers around the vent and on his bottom may come off so don't worry about that. Just get the poop off and put veg or olive oil around the vent, I've also heard of putting neosporin around it too. Good Luck!!
