I just got four chicks in the mail they are five days old now. One Speckled Sussex, one Silver Laced Wyandotte a Buff Brahma Roo and one Welsummer. The
Welsummer Pullet comes up behind the other chicks and pecks at their bottoms. No one has pasty butt or anything hanging out. But she will not stop. I put a screen between her and the others. When she pecks them they yell so I know it hurts. Of course she is not happy. She can see them through the screen but not get to them. I have never had a Welsummer or this problem ...suggestions? Should I rehome her because she will continue this agressive behavior? This this unusual behavior ....will it stop?

not unurual, its just being a chick when I have a chick that does this I sprinkle food on the bottom of brooder on top of papertowel it gives the chick something else to pick at.

Thanks for the reply. I have done that also put some blades of grass on bottom to peck at. They have a couple of things to jump on, I have a red light, two waters, two feeders, the brooder is a four feet by four feet. The other three all run around and flutter their little wings and it seems to be movement that makes the Wellie run after them and grab them. I read in a book that some of the strains have some that tend to feather pick. Right now I have the other three (brahma, sussex and wyandotte) on one side of the screen and the Wellie on the other. I have read the suggestions on to much heat, not enough air, not good food but I have done all of that. Any other suggestions....as I keep trying her in with the others but in under a minute she is at it again.

Okay, the lump seems like it is MUCH bigger than what the crop would be. AND it's like you can see it bulging from the skin in her neck. Here's a picture of it. It's the size a big egg. Any ideas?

That pink bald spot to the left of her beak is part of the bulge.
