Fix. For water damaged electronics?

Sorry if this thread belongs some where else like yahoo answers or something.
I left my ipod outside over night and it got rained on. It was pretty soaked under the case but when i turned it on it powerd on to show it needed to be charged. Before i had brought it outside it already had a low battery. I saw on the internet not to charge it for 48 hours to avoid short sircuting (spelling).
I put it in a bowl of rice, have any subjestions?

I would stick it down in the middle of a bowl of rice so its surrounded. And then turn it off. And dont touch it for at least 24 hrs.
Have had a few friends / family who have had to try this and it works.
