Would it be okay to put some in the brooder just to give them something to peck at. I know flax is really good for humans, but what about chickies??

I probably wouldn't do it just yet, but if you do, make sure they have access to grit first. They won't be able to digest the seeds without it.

Make sure the chicks are older and do feed grit then

when going to yahoo.con
I put in flax seeds for chiuckens
there is this URL
flax seed for chickens - whole or ground?
RE: flax seed for chickens - whole or ground? ... that mean there is little or no benefit to feeding flax seed to free-range chickens? ...forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/farmlife/msg0816411030304.html?7 - Cached

I don't know about babies, but we feed our girls tons of flaxseed and they love it. We put it in their feed also.

in humans anyway - flax seeds are only beneficial if they are ground or atleast split because our bodies cannot process them and 'break open' the seed. so they need to be crushed a bit.
