Fleas and Chickens?

Hi, we've had 8 backyard chickens, this is our third summer. Over the last 6 months or so our dogs have been getting fleas. We've used the traditional spot stuff on them, which usually gets rid of all the fleas, but they are not going away this time. We have not seen a single flea on the chickens.

Anyone know if the chickens can be the source of the fleas, and if so, what can be done about it?

Thanks!!

The dogs are miserable.

I've never found a definitive answer to this, but I have wondered the same. It seems likely that chickens can catch and carry fleas. I recently frontlined mine - I used half a cat dose on each - a drop on the neck, a drop under each wing and a drop by the tail. I googled it lots first to be sure it was safe!

Fleas have been terrible this year. I think that two mild winters have contributed to this problem.

The traditional frontline drops haven't touched the problem with the dogs.

I haven't noticed the chickens scratching or any other evidence of fleas on them.
