I have a rooster with what I believed to be bumblefoot on the bottom of his middle toe. His foot was hot, swollen, and he wouldn't put weight on it. I had been doctoring him by cleansing the wound, doing surgery, keeping him isolated, dressing the wound, and giving oral antibiotics. Well, he got another sore on top of his foot in a different place since then. I squeezed more stuff out today. His foot had not healed well at all from the first sore. He still eats and hops around in the cage, but the foot looks terrible after two weeks of dressing and cleansing and doctoring. What concerns me is if the wounds are from flesh eating bacteria. Is this possible in chickens? Could I have been exposed to it if it is possible? I decided to release him today. I am scared for my own health and I feel like he is a lost cause. Any advice? I feel terrible.
