Flicked out wing feathers on SLW?

Hi sorry yes 30 degree Celsius here in Oz :) I'll probably keep them in tomorrow as temperatures are expected to get closer to 40°c here 🥵
Yes it is fake grass... We use plush fake grass in the nesting boxes, following a suggestion I read on this forum actually when I was first setting up our coop. After the hens and chicks in the brooder kept flicking the saw dust and sugar cane mulch we tried into the water cup and causing it to run on and creating a swampy mess and dry waterer, we tried the fake grass as a covering in the brooder. It is easy to clean and seems to be comfortable for the chooks. Why is it a bad idea? 😟
It's going to be interesting to see what these chookies look like I think! Maybe I'm just not meant to have standard silver laced wyandottes... The first 3 slw chicks we got all turned into roosters 🤦. Hopefully we at least get some girls in this lot... I'm running out of family members on acreage to rehome my roosters with haha

Oh right. It's pretty heavy duty and in good condition and I haven't seen any bits coming loose or becoming threadbare so I'm not sure they could ingest it - but I will definitely investigate further! When I first put the chicks in they pecked at it a couple of times and then lost interest in it. The strip I have had in the nesting boxes for over a year still looks like new condition (after a wash) so I think it works really well in that application at least! Thanks for the warning about using in the brooder ☺

Another thing, if you want to breed don’t do frizzle x frizzle. It will cause chicks that will have their feathers super brittle and falling out. Do frizzle x smooth.
