So, in ALL my years of raising chickens, I have NEVER had flies hatch eggs underneath my chickens poop. When I had a smaller chicken coop, it held about 20 birds (Was extremely small, will do admit). It use to get cluttered with poop quick, mainly underneath the roost plus the ducks who made it worse, but it was never down right nasty. However, the poop often would stack up, not too mich but more then it is in my current coop, let me explain. My chickens now live in a shed with significant roosting space, and it’s only about 21 birds.Their floor is legit never THAT BAD, but this year I am witnessing maggots ALL over my coop floor. And the straw and facies is usually moved around not even in one place BECAUS eteh birds often dig around in it, but we have started having flies lay their eggs in the poop, and I can’t seem to figure out why and how to stop it,this has neevr happen.I dust, sweep, take, and shovel the coop, everything spotless, I usually clean every two weeks because the shed is so big, it really doesn’t need tat much cleaning. Any advice?

The flies have been bad this year, and they're huge opportunists. I use poop boards to catch the vast majority of droppings and scrape it off with a putty knife, daily...or I know it would be maggotville. :sick

While poop removal would be most effective, zeolite might be helpful to dry residual poop out...and if it's dry, flies might be less interested. Sweet PDZ is a brand of zeolite that's carried in farm stores near me, but it's sold under other brands, too - more in this thread.

Best of luck!
