What works for me sometimes (labor intensive) is to pull some good charcoal (no wood left) out of our wood stove ashes. We only burn clean hardwood, so we know it is safe. I brush off the ashes or rinse them and let them dry, which takes a long long time. Or, if I need to use them right away, rinse them thoroughly then grind them up, damp, in a mortar and pestle. The back of a heavy duty spoon in a heavy duty mixing bowl should work, too. Anyway, then I add that to the water. As far as I can tell, activated charcoal is simply finely crushed charcoal. I just want to emphasize what Miss Lydia said, not the grilling briquettes!!!! Toxic!!!! Because that has chemical accelerant in it to make it burn more quickly. They should start laying soon if mating has begun, usually 5-months on up to 9 months depending on breed. my last Muscovy girls were 7 months before they started to lay. They could have eaten something that didn't agree with them, if you suspect something like that you can give molasses in their water for no longer than 8 hrs, and also give activated charcoal in their water, not the charcoal bricketts that you use in grilling but in the supplement isle. I looked for activated charcoal at Walmart last week though and they didn't carry it. But both molasses and charcoal will help move toxins out of their systems.
My ducks are all FINE!!! Yea, they did free range in the yard as they were still to young for the pond ...but now they have graduated and they are on a pond full of all kinds of pond plants and weeds during the day...they also still rummage through our yard several times a day as well ...that is why we got them to help keep all the vegitation down so my DH can fish morewe put them back on starter grower and vitamin water and we have not had another incedent
thank you everyone!
