Hi everyone. This is my first post!! I'm Amanda and a soon to be chicken owner. But first I wanted the advice/input of some chicken raising experts. TIA!

The details: We have 450 sq. ft of space and plan to get 8 chicks. We have close neighbors and a 3 year old daughter, so we prefer calm, quiet, friendly chickens. Our goal: the eggs and the wonderful experience of having chickens as part of the family.

After reading about chicken breeds, I have decided to get 3 Easter eggers, 3 Australorps, and 2 Delawares.

Soooooo......what do you think of my choices? Will my girls get along and play nice? Will I be happy with my breed selection? (i'm sure i'll be happy of me breed selection, i'm already attached!!)

If you have a sec, gimme you input! Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day everyone!

The only breed I can vouch for on your list are the Australorps. Mine are docile and do not make much noise. The only noise mine make is in the morning when they are crowing, and sometimes in the evening. They are quite for most of the day.

My Silkie hens are quite, however, my Rooster crows all through out the day. It may just be him, I don't know if that is so with all Silkie Roosters.

I love both my breeds.

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

I figure even if they are a tad noisey, my college student neighbors will pay me back with late night partying!

!

I have a black australorp- she is a little bit shy. I cannot say enough good things about my orpingtons- they are the friendliest birds ever! I also think EEs are a good choice.. I'm planning on getting a couple next spring.

Jogging through the posts I am hearing a LOT of praise for Orpingtons. Now you have me thinking again.....

It' so hard to decide!!!

I'm no expert but

I LOVE my EE. And she lays beautiful light green eggs. I think they are a must if you have children. I plan on getting another one in the spring.

I have heard many people on her rave about their Australorps. I also plan on getting a couple of them in the spring.

My Orpington is a nice bird. Not super friendly, but not flighty either. She does honk like a goose though. I'm not sure if that is an Orpington trait or just her.

I don't know anything about Delawares.

Good luck choosing your breeds.

I can tell you that my EE is wonderful . We just started getting pastel green eggs from her, and they're about the same size as medium storebought eggs. She's shy unless you have food and generally very quiet. I also had 2 girls that I believe were delawares. They were also very quiet and super friendly.
