I had a flock of 17 chickens that we have had since they were days old. They are now 13 weeks old and I've now lost 4, all with the same symptoms within a week. They die one at a time. Each time one showed signs (isolated from others, no interest in food, wouldn't react when I picked her up) we isolated them inside with a heat lamp and electrolyte water. They all only lasted about 12 hours after that, even when I started giving them liquids by dropper every hour for the last two chickens.
We thought it might be worms initially, so I gave the whole group wormer before the last got sick. The whole flock has been given electrolytes in the water every day now too. I went to TSC this morning and bought some Corid and some Oxytetracycline and I have food grade DE coming in this afternoon. Hoping for some direction on what to use when?
Symptoms have included runny poo (some with bloody streaks, but not massive amounts of blood like I've seen in coccidosis pics). Then the pick a spot to stand in and don't react when I pick them up. Their wings don't spread in the startle reflex if I act like I'm going to drop them. From there they get more and more lethargic and uneasy on their feet, so they lay down and refuse to stand when coaxed. Then they lose head control and I have to prop up their head. In the end they have what I can only describe as mini seizures where their muscles occassionally tremor, wrenching them into awful positions before they just give out.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
