I had a flock of 17 chickens that we have had since they were days old. They are now 13 weeks old and I've now lost 4, all with the same symptoms within a week. They die one at a time. Each time one showed signs (isolated from others, no interest in food, wouldn't react when I picked her up) we isolated them inside with a heat lamp and electrolyte water. They all only lasted about 12 hours after that, even when I started giving them liquids by dropper every hour for the last two chickens.

We thought it might be worms initially, so I gave the whole group wormer before the last got sick. The whole flock has been given electrolytes in the water every day now too. I went to TSC this morning and bought some Corid and some Oxytetracycline and I have food grade DE coming in this afternoon. Hoping for some direction on what to use when?

Symptoms have included runny poo (some with bloody streaks, but not massive amounts of blood like I've seen in coccidosis pics). Then the pick a spot to stand in and don't react when I pick them up. Their wings don't spread in the startle reflex if I act like I'm going to drop them. From there they get more and more lethargic and uneasy on their feet, so they lay down and refuse to stand when coaxed. Then they lose head control and I have to prop up their head. In the end they have what I can only describe as mini seizures where their muscles occassionally tremor, wrenching them into awful positions before they just give out.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Treat for coccidiosis with Corid. Mix it 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water. Change it daily, do not mix anything else in the water. If one isn't drinking well, give small amounts by mouth with a dropper or syringe, and let them swallow after a few drops. There are at least 9 strains of cocci, and only 2 cause blood in the stools. Any bloody streaks, and you should treat for sure. After Corid is finished treat with a little yogurt or buttermilk and 3 days of viitamins in the water. Here are some articles to read:

Sounds an awful lot like cocci but also alot like Newcastle disease can u give me some more symptoms?
She lives in Georgia, USA, so it's probably not Newcastles. Fortunately there haven't been any cases of exotic Newcastles in the US for many years, according to what I have read about it.

Thank you for the help an links! Would it be ok for me to add a tad of apple cider vinegar to the water with the Corid? What about some DE in the mash I'm giving? We cleaned out our isolator from the girl that passed over night and already have another in there. She's very early on in her symptoms, so I am praying for the best! She'sand drinking freely at the moment, but she started still and didn't startle when I tested her, so I brought her in for early intervention.

Well the heat lamp might be to hot and it coud be not a nuf water so pick them up and and dip thare mouths in water and give them med food and give them vegetables and a bed time and a lot I mean a lot of a tenshun

I've lost three in the last week. The first two I wasn't around when it happened - just found them dead. The third I found weak and lethargic. Brought it in the house, and it died a half hour later. This morning I have one that has the same symptoms, except she won't hold her head up - kinda like you are describing. I'll be surprised if she makes it through the day. I ordered Corid after the first two. I wish it would get here already. I will never be without it again, that's for sure. I might have been able to prevent this latest chicken from getting sick. She's my favorite. :hit

I hope your flock rebounds, and you don't lose any others.
