Hello everyone! I'm about 5 weeks in to my first time getting chickens. Initially we ordered five bantams from MPC, and were heartbroken when two of them (Fanny and Emily) died in the first two weeks. Our other three girls, Ada (Bantam Buff Brahma) and Margaret and Harriet (Bantam Mottled Cochins) are doing great and we love them so hard! We have a sneaking suspicion that Margaret might actually be Magnus, as she (he?!) is feathering slower than her sisters. If Maggie turns out to be a roo, we'll have to re-home as we aren't allowed roos in the city.

Today we picked up three more bantams because I can't get enough chickens in my life. Dorothy, Josephine, and Wilhelmina are our newest additions, three Bantam Barred Cochin pullets. They're so sweet already!

The girls are living inside in a brooder for another week or so while the coop is set up and made cozy for them. Bellatrix the Border Collie loves the chickens already and likes to sit with me and watch them for hours, though she gets a little shy when they try to come say hello. Luna, our Ragdoll kitty keeps peering into the brooder with a twinkle in her eye but she knows that she has to behave and we keep the door to the office shut so the chicks are safe. I'm loving being a new chicken mom!
