Its not just not laying. She isnt hardy and she is small. Things I dont want in my genetics. She hasnt been moulting she has no excuse for not laying.

Well if she's not laying, she's not going to figure in your genetics plan anyway, lol.

if it wasn't for slackers, I'd hardly have any birds at all, LOL. I do understand culling a small or otherwise unacceptable bird though. Sometimes I offer them for sale for $10 and get a taker from craigslist. Saves me from processing a scrawny bird, and makes someone else happy, and I have $ to spend on feed!

She is culled. DIdnt eat her, she didnt have any meat AT ALL.

Not surprising. That would go along with her acting cold and having questionable health. And not laying, too. She just didn't have the body for any of it. Looks like you made the right choice.

I am very glad I did it. I thought about waiting till Spring but I thought her 16 sisters are doing just fine and larger, hardier, and are laying also. So she went to the chopping block......

Barred, I support your decision even if you get flack from some of the others. I have had to do the same things myself quite a few times. You did what was best for your flock. Cant argue with that

wise decision BarredBuff. from a homesteading standpoint you did right. there is no room for deadbeats. id do the same. even if she laid the occasional egg. she wouldnt be near enuff productive to be worth her keep. i personally dont run a hospital. cull heavily, and you get much better fowl. feeds to high, pen space to sparse, time to valuable to waste on slackers.
