Flock under house arrest

I do the plastic t-posts and chicken wire and they don't bother it. Take it down in the fall when the garden is done.

What I bought at Lowe's (outside garden area) was actually called chicken fence and it was 48" x 50'. Cost was like 12 a roll. They might have larger rolls, but 50 feet was all I needed. Stuff lasts forever!!

Great ideas! Thank you! I didn't think about something temporary and easy to dismantle. Thanks again.

Well I also garden and didn't want the hens there or poop on my patio. We have 5 acres. So in addition to the coop and run, I fenced in a large yard 35 ft by 70 ft for my 12 hens. And that seems to work fine. It wasn't too expensive, I used metal posts and 4ft fencing. The area is proving to be large enough that they do not scratch up enough to prevent the vegetation (grass and, of course, weeds) from growing well. With 11 acres you should be able to spare a sizable chuck for a large yard for them. They will get plenty of exercise and bugs. I also give them mealworms and throw them various kitchen or garden scraps/waste, and of course, I give them organic feed. They're laying very well.
