floor covering in run ?pic

Hi,i`am new at this i was wondering if i need to put saw dust or something on the run floor,because they eat and scratch of the dirt and dont want them to get sick.

I have almost of foot of large-particle sand in my run, and it's great. The sand is the type used by contractors who lay pavers for driveways.

I wouldn't put anything in there. That's a chickens job, to scratch in the dirt

Just make sure there is nothing harmful in there like glass, or any kind of chemical fertilizer.

If they eat a bit of dirt it helps with digestion. I will need to put down some sand just to help keep my eggs cleaner. It's the muddy, slushy season here.
