I know several people here have used scraps of vinyl, kitchen/bathroom flooring where others just use wood. What's your preference and why? At this stage I'm leaning toward vinyl for ease of cleaning but I've never had to deal with flooring before

I found remnants of vinyl flooring at HD for $.24/sq. ft. I bought 2 12x8' rolls and used one on the floor and up the walls and the other along the walls. My coop is new, but I anticipate that the vinyl and a floor level window will make clean out a breeze!

Oooh! Floor level windows! Can I steal this idea?:gig

Here’s the clean out window. It’s hinged at the top and swings out with a hook to keep open. The vinyl flooring goes out over the sill. Should make clean out easy!

I painted and used vinyl and then covered it with pine shavings
and

This was my plan! Mildew resistant deck paint with vinyl on top then pine shavings over the flooring :thumbsup

I've had good luck with vinyl plastic pull out trays in our freestanding coop with pine on top as litter. Being chest high I sift out the little nighttime poops and replace the shavings with brand new every two weeks.

Plywood flooring. Lots of hay. Power wash and air dry annually. Twenty years and counting, no staining on the flooring.

See, it's cooler and super humid here with salt water air and mildew/moss/mold grows on *anything* exposed or untreated! I see you're in KS and I'm assuming humidity and dampness are relatively lower than where I am?

I also lined the poop boards with the vinyl and then covered it with sand. I've got a litter box scoop that I use to sift out the poop each day ... I'm finding that there's something zen about the task!
