Florida “Wild” Pekin Duck Watchers

Yes! Here are some pictures:

This one was taken from our “nest” camera. Mama is on the nest and Papa is sitting near. He doesn’t stay the night. Anyone know why? I know she could use the protection.

Here is the nest of eggs. 10 eggs from what I can tell. We counted 15 eggs when she first started sitting. She’s lost a few from breakage and an opossum. I took this picture after she fought with a raccoon and she fled the nest.

Here is the mama duck sitting on her nest. She has a black beak. A bit of a broken spot on it as well. Missing webbing on one foot. She is the smallest of the ducks. Maybe a mixed breed?

And here is my oldest daughter making it “rain” for the mama duck! She likes making her happy!

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the pictures! Someone with duck experience may be able to answer the behavior question you asked. Good luck to seeing some ducklings hatch. :fl

Welcome. Great pictures, thank you. You could make some temporary fencing for her for more protection. Also, motion lights help at night but won't stop a hungry predator.
Thank you. I appreciate the suggestions! We did put out a couple of motion lights which I really like. We have thought about fencing her in but wondered if she might feel trapped with no way to escape if a predator came. Still debating what it would look like to allow her to come and go and keep her safe. I am very worried about the hungry predators. 😢

Thanks again!
