FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I want to start selling eggs & produce in the future but I was concerned about what to price them at, especially since you can get a dozen for a dollar at some places. I bought one of those $1 dozens and even though I haven't had my own "farm fresh" eggs yet, they tasted aweful! I had to smother them in garlic salt just to finish the dozen! Lesson learned here, but I wonder how many other folks bought them and maybe don't know what good eggs taste like...

But how am I supposed to compete with $1 a dozen? Do we have to beat those "cage free, organic brown" eggs that are like $5 a dozen?

I won't bother. I only have 5 hens anyway, but I'm not fond of paying people to make my life more difficult. Thanks but no thanks, they won't get a dime from me. I'm keeping my eggs to myself.

So does this mean its pretty much an act of futility to try and sell the few extra eggs I have? If you have to pay for permits inspections and all the rest , then no thanks I'll keep and freeze my extras or feed them to the dogs.

I think you are ok under the cottage section, as long as you always sell directly to the customer, ie: no resale to a local store who then sells to the customer.
and the max sales per year is $1500.00 there are details in the document links.. but read this for yourself, i can't guarantee.

the law was only passed in 2011, and was a big step forward towards trying to help out small farmers and people like us so things are actually improving.

I think some of the stipulations are still not totally good but at least is something.

I see ads all the time on CL and signs all over the back roads where I live. "Farm fresh eggs or just eggs at the end of a driveway." Before my chickens started laying I was buying my eggs from a lady who lives down the road. She charged $2.50/dozen or $3.50/18 If you brought your own carton she would knock off the $.50.

You know what's really sad here is the fact that I have to even ask if selling a simple egg is going to break some law somewhere on the books.

Its out of control. One of the reasons why I shut down the idea 9 years ago of starting a business for my handmade CP soaps was because its not worth dealing with the idiotic regulations and such.

Oh well maybe I'll ask friends to donate for their favorite hen when they get a box of eggs instead, lol!

We have a small Farmers Market here in St. Johns every Saturday am in the Alpine Park. Someone from McClenny is selling goat cheese, goat milk soaps and brown eggs. She is selling them $4.00 Dozen and while I was talking to her a lady came up and bought 3 dozen when she heard the price and didn't bat an eye.
