FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I am in northwest Florida; between Panama City and Tallahassee. I have several one year old pullets of various breeds that I would like to sell. They were bought from a local feed store and are hatchery chicks. I am wanting to focus on a few specific breeds. Please contact me for more info. May be selling my gold lace Wyandotte trio (NOT hatchery).

Hi Becky!

The options are endless, and it depends upon how many birds you will have, how much land you have available, what your local predators are, how much you are willing to spend, and what your local codes might demand.

As a general guide I would say:
Go as big as you can,
start with hardware cloth and forget about wasting money on chicken wire,
keep it open to catch any breezes,
run electric for a fan and lights if you possibly can,
have a big area with rain protection and SHADE SHADE SHADE! :D

There are tons of examples in the coop and run thread, so I would look at those, pick some favorites, then ask us Florida people to help you narrow it down from by pros and cons of each using our experiences.

x2 on @Kikiriki 's tips. And one more: make it easy to clean! Chickens are messy little birds and you don't want to bend yourself into a pretzel trying to reach awkward corners and tight places.

If you have a picture you can post of the coop you have just started along with the type (bantam or large fowl), how many birds, how much space do you have for a coop and pen (unless you are planning on free ranging or pasturing the birds). There are so many questions. Need more input of what you have and what you want. Also pictures are nice. Many times pictures tell a lot more and give a better perspective. Good luck and have fun...
