Hello again BYC friends! I am not sure where to ask this question, so I will start here... I am looking for a specific type of place to live. If you know of anywhere that fits the bill, please let me know!

1. chicken friendly
2. bee friendly
3. small town
4. 3/2 home on at least .5 acre
5. walking or biking distance to post office, library, grocery, thrift store, small college (my daughter is early enrolled teen) or on bus route as we are a 1 car family who tries not to drive much.
6. progressive friendly - I am very liberal and keep it to myself mostly but prefer not to live somewhere I will be lynched for being a tree-hugger
7. homeschool friendly
8. would love to be able to have a milking goat (or 2), too

If you know of a place like this, please let me know! I am open-minded at this point!

That's a hard one to answer. Have you checked with a real estate agent? Are you looking to stay in Florida or close to where you are now?

West Palm area? it is rather urban but there are plenty of large lots and it is animal friendly.

I am honestly so discouraged right now. I would seriously consider any suggestions of where to look. I either can't afford a place or the place does not allow animals, or I can afford it and it does allow animals but it is in the middle of nowheresville.

I would say anywhere around coastal Oregon and Northern California. . . (a small town, of course)

I agree with Halo, Ocala.
I would say Marion County in general. There are several cities that fit what your looking for including, Belleview, Dunnellon, Summerfield. Belleview allows chickens in the city, but I don't know about the others. However, you don't have to live in the city but could live close to any of them and still have what you want.

Well do you want to stay in Florida? There are probably many more states that would fit the bill. Up here in Tennessee we are pretty easy going. There is a 4/2 house for sale across the street from me on 10(?)acres, a lot fenced already. We have goats, chickens, etc. and I'd love LOVE to have someone across from me who has livestock that doesn't weigh a ton

We're not very liberal per se, but there are quite a few that live around here...we just avoid talking politics with them

We homeschool too, and there are a couple small community colleges within 25 miles.

Florida has no state tax either. No place is more livestock friendly than right here in Marion County. And Tennessee gets cold! So there!

Also as far as taxes, if your property is over 10 acres you can apply for Farmland Assessment, which gives a good discount on your taxes. My taxes here on 10 acres is $1100.
