FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

aw they're cuter than speckled puppies! you name them yet?

Thanks. I cant get over their markings lol we haven't picked out good names yet , we try to go with themes when we name the chickens like our older ones have star wars names and the middle aged have shakespeare names and characters from his plays and that lead to a few names from my daughters favorite books and her favorite authors lol so she will come up with something special for them

Hey everyone! I'm Colin, new to BYC. Just moved to Brandon, FL and finally have a yard; no chickens yet, but soon, hopefully!
When I was a child, we'd get chicks through the mail in enormous numbers to raise for meat. But how would I go about finding just a few young hens? If this is the wrong thread for the question, let me know. Thank you!

Hi welcome to BYC , Im caeti , the tractor supply stores have pullets for sale right now , craigslist has chicks for sale thats where i post mine

So I've been moving for days because the friends who were supposed to show and help of course never showed and my previous landlord is angry... My chicken's temporary coop is a large playhouse turned coop and it takes a trailer and about 4-5 STRONG men to move it... so i thought maybe a flatbed tow truck..? but we can't get a truck into the backyard.. any ideas on how to move a large coop quickly? We got it there 3 years ago on a lawn trailer and with a bunch of guys, but the lawn trailer has since been gone and i need ideas for a quick move to get my pullets to my new house!
Well, here's a thought...our hen house is actually a defunct portable storage shed we got from our local U-Haul...to move it into place (100 ft from the driveway where it was delivered ) we laid down a couple sheets of plywood as a track and used a hydraulic pallet jack to lift and move it cross the property. (Dirt, river rock, mulch) By the time my son and I pulled and pushed and rolled over to the edge of ply #2, wife would take ply # 1 and leap frog it over in front of ply # 2 and we just kept on like that till it was where we wanted. The pallet jack we had was good for up to 3,000 lbs so it was more than enough to do the job

Wish now I'd of taken pictures of the whole deal cause it was something we were pleased with after it was done, family effort and all!

If you look close on the bottom you can see how the base is..pallet like. Rolled easy enough once the initial "UH" push and pull got it going! Ar one point my poor wife was panting to keep up with out momentum! Son nearly rolled me over a time or two, too but we won't mention that...heh.

Maybe you could borrow a trailer or go to U-Haul and check to see what a partial days rental would be.

I have had better luck.

Im excited to compare my results from the different ways and im glad youre a constant user of a dry hatch so i can ask you questions i might have along the way but i just put eggs in but i started them the way i always do its only been three days so idk how healthy it would be if i let the humitidy come down so the next hatch ill attempt a dry hatch :D

I had problems for several days not long ago when we had an off and on rain of mist and light rain, everything was so wet and it was so humid I couldn't get the humidity below 45%. I shut off the water to the incubator and had all of the vents wide open. Finally after the rain ended we had some nice dry air days where I could get the humidity down around 30%. My hatch rate is probably around 80% for the hatch I just had.
