He is a handsome rooster. I am aware of chickens roaming wild in Ybor City and Key West. Never heard of them in Ft Lauderdale. Sad that someone would just drop him off at a grocery store.

We have 10 (black) Jersey Giants hatched on 4/23/2024. Looking to sell all. It is a mix of cockerels (2) and pullets (8). Would be a good starter flock. Will break up into two flocks. Located in Ocala, FL. If interested please send a message.

Hello,

I have a question regarding the laws surrounding Muscovy ducks. Obviously they are invasive here in FL but I was wondering what I can and can't do regarding a population in my apartment complex.

Background: Ive noticed multiple nests and now three clutches born since May having issues. specifically of Spraddle leg. I captured and successfully rehabbed two of them that were about to be killed then sent them off with another user here to be legally relocated.

My thoughts are now what can I do to help the overall issue here. Is it illegal to feed them? Obviously the complex will have a problem with that but I can deal with them. Fish and game however....those guys are rabid. I feel like if I can get some brewers yeast and peas then that could fix the random ducklings I see limping.

Do I need any permits to remove muscovy egg nests? If so where can I get them? I figure the best course of action is remove nests before they incubate to help with population control.

I guess im trying to do anything I can despite not owning land and obeying the law (which unfortunately doesn't help these ducks)

I wouldn't disturb the nests, unless you collect the eggs to incubate. The leg issues are probably due to low Niacin. They require a little more niacin than chickens do. The frozen peas idea is good. When raising my duck, I was made aware of the importance of adding a little extra niacin, for good leg development. I would take a tablet, and crush it between two spoons. You could do that, and sprinkle a little of it on the peas. That would probably solve most of the issues.

For the folks that live in western Duval, Nassau, and Baker, what are the main predators do yall encounter?
We live north of Glen St Mary in Baker county. Hawks are a dime a dozen and loose dogs roaming around are currently the main predators. I've seen a few small non poisonous snakes crawling around the pens. Rats were a big problem a few years ago, but I dealt with them.

When we lived in Jax on the west side, hawks were it.
