My little granddaughters left this morning going back to Va where school starts on 6th. Sure will miss them and so will my feathered girls. Tiny will not miss riding around in the bike basket, I'm sure. Such a good chicken.

Everyone be safe and enjoying the awesome weather that is coming. It should be more of a show than a danger to us/

YES! Last night I laid down in bed and said to my husband, "I really wish the mosquito truck would just drive through right now"... behold a sound outside our window with flashing lights & .... the truck!

It came literally right after I wished for it out loud. That combined with the gorgeous breeze we're having are helping the mosquito problem. We're in a flood zone here, so our property gets pretty moist.... Hoping our sunken living room isn't affected by the storms. I'm sure our basement/ 5 ft high crawlspace area will be a swimming pool.

I placed the coop on a higher elevation so the girls shouldn't get flooded... & even if they do, the roost & nesting boxes are at the very tippy top of the coop..... but if I think there's going to be major issues, first I'm going to have to figure out how to stabilize a broomstick in my shed... & then the chickies will all just stay in there. It's concrete & built original to the house... so way better than any of "Ted's Sheds" or something from Home Depot.

I agree.. I have been looking everywhere for some guinea pig cages or large dog crates to house all the girls in the garage should all HE-double-hockey-sticks break loose but am having very little luck...

OH.. gotta go.. hearing an egg song outside

my coop is approx 2 1/2 ft off the ground with re-enfnorced hardwre cloth/chicken wire bottom on 4x4 post and constructed from OSB, so should be pretty substantial, unless the roof goes. Feathered girls like to hide and rest under coop and seldom go inside when we have a rain. Hope that is enough as John has been down with some kind of "poop disease" which has prevented him taking his bio/chemo treatments, so he unable to help if storm bad. Caveat...I am a south Louisiana girl and have lived all my life along the coast and sat out several historic storms, Camille, Betsy, Opal and Erin to name the big ones so I am pretty confident in my ability to prepare and ride out storms. I am also are that anything can happen during a hurricane......

So please everyone be safe, be careful.

My whole yard will be a swimming pool. And skeeter sprayer comes around here even though I call them everyday and ask them when are you guys gonna spray & they say every thursday and I told them I haven't seen a sprayer truck around here in over a year. Then I went on to tell them I pay taxes just like you & everyone else in this county & they responded and said yes sir we'll have a truck out there within 30 minutes. And about 10 minutes later here comes a truck So I go out and say to him would you mind going driving in my yard and all around and spray cause I have a business here and can't handle my stock getting sick because of ya'lls lack of spraying around here.Since I live on 10 acres I opened my gate and he drove in and sprayed. So I hope it helped my chickens even though they was asleep at the time he sprayed.
