FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

It could be the hens were picking his feathers, BUT it sounds more like the boy was doing some fence fighting with some other roos on the property and scraped up his legs.
When they molt, they will lose the leg feathering too, BUT they woulding be stumbling around. That sounds like am injury where he scraped his own legs and pulled the feathers out at the same time.

Thanks for the reply math ace,

I noticed that the only hen that is laying right now was pecking at the sore spot on his legs this morning? Maybe trying to get his attention so he would do his job?
The other Roo in the pen with him hasn't fought with him as far as I know, but I can't be out there all the time so it's a possibility. Is bare spots on the outside of the legs an indicator of that?

This morning he had his head tucked in his feathers and wasn't eating. I separated him from the flock and he immediately went to water and then ate some feed. I'm going to town for a de-wormer and some seven dust hoping to take care of worms or mites if that is the problem.
I'm also going to pick up some Poly-V-Sol as I've read here that it is a great vitamin booster.

Can anyone recommend a good poultry wormer?

I would use Wazine if they have not been wormed in the last 6 months. You might get some blu-kote to spray on the wound too. Once they pick a spot raw, they will continue to peck at it till the bird is dead. It really sounds like he is being dominated by the other rooster from your last post. ....stan

Yes I am pretty loco I mean local. Lol. My husband just finished my coop last Sunday and Monday a person in Middleburg gave me 5 laying hens 4 of them black australorps with feathered feet a white and brown w feathered feet another person gave me 2 silver lace wyandottes, 1 gold laced Wyandotte, another black australorp, and yet another person gave me a big beautiful serama rooster. I have 18 eggs in and incubator and have ordered 20 silkie eggs for next month. Clearly addicted already. Got to get hubby to start on the silkie and baby chick pen.
Welcome, neighbor! I have a RIR, New Hampshire Red and Barred Rock. We are still waiting for our first egg. We got our coop and hens the weekend of Thanksgiving.

Well, the other Rooster has been afraid of him. I've never seen him touch him. The one with the bare spots is the big man of the coop.
That laying hen wouldn't quit hen pecking him though. I hope that's all it is, I can fix that. maybe she's trying to test him to see if he's tough and man enough for a girl like her.?

He's actually picking up quite a bit now that he's alone. We'll see what the Vitamin/Mite therapy does I guess.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do have an incubator if you ever want to go in on some hatching eggs of specialty breeds. I will be putting more in 3rd or 4th week of January a silkie batch.

I'm so excited!!! I just entered my first chicken show, the Florida Sunshine Classic in Lake City! Woot woot!
