It could be the hens were picking his feathers, BUT it sounds more like the boy was doing some fence fighting with some other roos on the property and scraped up his legs.
When they molt, they will lose the leg feathering too, BUT they woulding be stumbling around. That sounds like am injury where he scraped his own legs and pulled the feathers out at the same time.
Thanks for the reply math ace,
I noticed that the only hen that is laying right now was pecking at the sore spot on his legs this morning? Maybe trying to get his attention so he would do his job?
The other Roo in the pen with him hasn't fought with him as far as I know, but I can't be out there all the time so it's a possibility. Is bare spots on the outside of the legs an indicator of that?
This morning he had his head tucked in his feathers and wasn't eating. I separated him from the flock and he immediately went to water and then ate some feed. I'm going to town for a de-wormer and some seven dust hoping to take care of worms or mites if that is the problem.
I'm also going to pick up some Poly-V-Sol as I've read here that it is a great vitamin booster.
Can anyone recommend a good poultry wormer?
