FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi there other BYC enthusiasts, newbie here living in the central Florida area, Palm Bay to be exact and I have finally gotten around to writing a little information about me, myself, and I. My current collection of chickens is a mix of various breeds such as Ameraucanas, Silkies, Black Sex Links, Barred Rocks, Jersey Giants, Cornish X's and a few others. I also have two goats, which in the near future will contain breeds other than my two Nigerian Dwarf does. I have plans for a large expansion (of both land and animal breed) in time once I able to relocate from Palm Bay although I have not chosen a specific destination as of yet.

Due to being 100% permanently disabled from my time spent in the military I am unable to acquire meaningful employment and it seems a perfect fit for me to move into the agricultural field. Two years after high school I chose to join the service for many reasons one of which was to do what I felt was my part in giving back to my country.  I spent 13 years in the service before being discharged for medical reasons, a list much longer than I could have expected but have since accepted them as being me even though it was not easy to arrive at that point nor was it a quick process. Fast forward a little and……….. I have decided that eventually I would like to have a piece of property able to support most all of my family’s needs and live as self sustainable as possible. Maybe I am crazy for typing this next desire I have as this is no longer the case for most but I would love to be able to have my parents, brothers, sisters, and anyone else that is important to me if they feel so inclined, to come live together collectively on the same piece of property. The desire exists to even be able to have a large dinner once a week where everyone comes together for good wholesome food made at home, stimulating conversation, and nothing more than to spend time together as a loving family. And if it makes me come across as having some small amount of sanity I have no desire for everyone to live under the same roof, hence the large portion of land so each may dwell in their own residence. This country, in my humble opinion, is not what it once was and my experiences with the federal government (not just the military but all of the federal government), multiple states governments, and the large body of citizens of the U.S. have veered me towards a path of seclusion from the mainstream. I have come to prefer the quiet life, serenity, tranquility, nature, peace, and the ability to co-exist peacefully with others whom share similar beliefs. The idea of helping others for no other reason than experiencing the feeling that comes from within as a result of your helping another is so natural in my mind. Yet I do also hold feelings of hesitation when accepting help for many reasons and most times when I have needed it have chosen to remain silent. This is something I struggle with on a daily basis and have not been able to find a place of acceptance yet. My goal is to reach the same point I have with my medical issues when it comes to being able to accept that help and in my mind be happy to have the help and still retain my sense of independence.  I don't believe in the grand scheme any longer that we live in a free country, not that many out there truly believe in freedom. My definition of freedom is one that I realize is not what others use to define the word. I believe a good portion of others out there who think they believe in freedom don't even realize that their belief is not true freedom and is some form of something else that I don't want to even begin to try to define.

To avoid the possibility of a diatribe which I was surely headed towards I will attempt to close this post with where I hope, actually I should say my partner and I hope, to head with our agricultural adventures. My partner is a very artistic individual and those works we will offer at a reasonable cost. We also are working on a website devoted to the; who, what, when, where, and why of our adventures. Also included will be a blog, product reviews, travel experiences, restaurant reviews, husbandry related information, and what other pertinent information we choose to share that seems relevant and interesting to others. I will be working towards improving the lines of all the livestock we are raising which will entail years upon years of dedicated work. In addition to the animals we will also be growing and have for sale various fruits, vegetables, and herbs.  Between the various species of poultry, goat, rabbit, canine, and swine, added to the plant realm bounties we cultivate surely lots and lots of free time will exist! Hopefully the slight bit of sarcasm is recognized as I have no idea where any free time will be found. A percentage of all profits we will donate to various chosen organizations that have some personal significance to us, The Wounded Warrior Project is only one such example. I still have a lot of recovering to do both financially and personally since departing the service yet I know and have to remind myself often that my focus should be one day at a time. I look forward to reading the many posts created and responded to by all of the other BYC enthusiasts. Good Day and Peace to you all. JS

Welcome to the group. I look forward to watching you turn your goals into a reality. Thank you for your service to our country.
