I'm so glad I live in south west ranches and don't have to deal with all the problems you are going through. Good luck with being able to keep chickens to all the people fighting for that right. And thanks to everyone on here that is helping out

If anyone from Escambia County is lurking on here, we would appreciate your support in making our Board of County Commissioners aware of the presence of responsible chicken keepers! Ironically, chickens are legal in the City of Pensacola. They've always been legal there, there was previously a large setback that made it difficult for the average residential property owner to meet. Last year, they lowered the setback, but imposed other restrictions such as no roosters. A group of us campaigned for the county to follow suit. This was before an election and many of the county commissioners assured us that they were on our side and they just wanted to "wait and see" how the new ordinance worked out for the city. Our group leader was assured that she would be informed before it came up for a vote again. Then a few days ago, with no warning, they voted against any changes to the ordinance. The animal control department is afraid of an increased workload so they presented a PowerPoint estimating that it would cost nearly a HALF MILLION DOLLARS to implement changes necessary to handle all the nuisance chickens!!
We are going to the next commissioner meeting to express our displeasure. Unfortunately, our numbers aren't that great. There is little awareness in the community about the laws. Many people assume that it's already legal in the county because of all the press about it being legal in the city. The online newspaper for the rural part of the county just writes articles that keep getting country people scared that any changes will make things more restrictive for them when, actually, even in the rural areas they are already required to have at least 1.5-2 acres to own chickens.
Our Facebook page is here - https://www.facebook.com/escobackyardchickens?fref=ts . The meeting is Thursday, February 21st, 4:30 p.m. at the Escambia County Governmental Building, 221 Palafox Place, Pensacola, FL. Any support from locals or advice from anyone on how to refute the animal control department's claim of exorbitant costs to contain chickens would be appreciated!
Quote: Yes, Nava has some beautiful birds!
Newbie here from Crestview, FL. I have a Buff Orphington and a Barred Rock right now and want to add a couple of EEs or Ameraucanas. Anyone know where I can find some in the area?
So glad to be here and to soak up the knowledge!![]()
Welp.
We lost our last Rooster tonight. He died almost to the day when he reached the age of the other one when it also died. (7 months-1 week)
Therefore, I'm guessing it was something genetic (they were brothers hatched at different times). We're sad cause we raised him from almost birth and he was a real nice guy.
We have some of his sired eggs in the incubator right now, but we don't know if they are fertile or not, so his legacy might live on... although we might cull any males because of the genetic thing.
If anyone knows where I can buy a young adult Wheaten Marans Roo let me know.
Sorry for your loss I also have 2 brothers of the ones you got from Juie Akers, Ill see what happens with mine and let you know......Welp.
