I have one to that needs a home. I woke to a crow this morning and I'm a chicken outlaw so that's not good. I have a he. I thought he might be but I was hopeful. My husband started sharpening the knives. I don't think I can handle it. I've gotten quite close to this one. He's a New Hampshire and his color is beautiful. He is approximately 5 1/2 months old. He is very curious at good at keeping an eye on the sky. I tried to post photos but I'm not sure they went up.

The treasure coast near Stuart on the map. I can't say exactly cause as I said I'm an outlaw. I'm trying to get pictures up but they don't want to load. My heart is breaking I was not intending on eating these ones so I let myself get attached. I wil meet someone within reason. I really want him to go to someone who won't eat him. He may make a good show bird or breeding roo. I do have a New Hampshire puller the same age if someone wants a breeding pair. I would rather not let her go since my other girls are really attached to her. Well they are all attached to eachother.

Congrats on your first egg!

I am by no means an expert, but to answer your question about nesting, I put hay in the nesting boxes ( I have two boxes). Mine are at the back of my a-frame mobile coop and I don't put anything on the ground because we move it about once a week for the grass to recuperate ( ha, ha, I made a pun! ). All my chickens seem to lay their eggs in the same box though. I see them occasionally in the other box, but they have never laid an egg there.

Thank you soooo much !! Yeah i have two nesting boxes also but she jumps up into the coop and lays them where she sleeps lol she has laid everyday since!! i caught who was doing it ..... its my barred rock and htank you again!

I use old milk crates as nesting boxes and put shavings and pine needles as the bedding.

Thanks!! i did put some shavings in there but they always scratch them out .i just got back in from outside watching my rhode island red lay an egg!! seems like the rooster was protecting and comforting her.so far i have 4 eggs.

If you got the chicks in March then they would be about 5 months old. Do you have any nest boxes? I have used spanish moss and hay in my nest boxes. They do kick the hay out sometimes.
The pullets should start laying from 20 to 24 weeks.






i love those pictures! do you put the golf ball in there so they know where to lay? thanks again for your help

Milk crates make a good nesting box but work better if you add a lip on the front to hold the hay or chips in.
