FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi Molinda! Welcome! I am in Sarasota too! East of 75! I started with chickens about a year ago just wanting 5 and a mixed basket of eggs. I now have 24 Layers and 3 roosters! They call that chicken math here, although it applies to many other animals as well! This site is awesome! So many great, knowledgeable people here. All willing to help us newbies!

I have a critter proof coop where they all go in at night and I have a group of "outsiders" that free range all day (and I have an egg hunt when they go in), and the "insiders" that go into the chicken run most of the day. They free range starting around 3pm and then they put themselves to bed. The chicken run is my fenced in garden that I put pvc pipe and shade cloth on to create a run. It is not entirely predator proof, but during the day it is pretty safe! I have electric poultry netting around it that I can turn on when I am going to be out. I feel pretty confident that would keep a fox, bobcat, coyote, or other 4 legged critter out!

Carly T- I am hatching too! What kind are you hatching? I am hatching some of my own eggs. I put up some Ameraucanas, Cream Legbar, Barred Rock, and a mutt, all covered by an Ameraucana roo. Can't wait to see what hatches, and how many boys

Good luck!

I am hatching, barred rocks (pure), a mixture of RIR, redstar, jersey giant/black copper maran, isbar....all breed by black copper maran/ameracauna roo. Also, black sex links, brown leghorn with RIR roo.

The one that hatched I posted a picture of is from a redstar hen/BCM/Ameracauna roo.

I put some Red Star eggs under one of my Wheaten Marans when she went broody. The Red Stars had my spare Marans Roo in their pen.
Here is the result

They're one week old tomorrow. I'm curious to see what they'll look like.

Hi SullyD,
2nd day n all 4 found the water n food; n I closed the door to the coup. The first day they pretty much stayed in the coup, though I took them out every other hour or so n watched them in the run.
The lady said 2 should be laying eggs already...so I'm wondering if they need time to adjust to their new environment? N how long it takes?
