FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hi, my name is Gonzo4Chicks,and I have an addiction. A coworker gave me my first taste of PA (poultry addiction) about 9 months ago when she started her own flock. Got our first 12 (aka the Dirty Dozen) just over a week ago and now the entire household is hooked.

I am learning what "Chicken Math" is, and I keep wondering what the feed store will have and hope that my mother-in-law might bring home something new when going for hay.

Seriously, I've learned a lot lurking here for the past few months and look forward to reading and sharing in the future.

I live in New Smyrna Beach :)

:welcome

I started years ago with 5, I now have 37, lol. I have also added eggs to the incubator even though I have eggs hatching in the other one. I think I have a problem lol! But I love them so much!

Welcome Gonzo! You won't regret the journey. One thing I love about chickens is that they eat so many different things, so I never feel like I'm really "wasting" anything from the kitchen anymore. So in exchange for something that might have been thrown away before chickens, now that something can be turned into eggs! There are some good posts on byc about treats and things that chickens do and don't eat. Give them a read for some great ideas. May you be blessed with many eggs and fun taking care of your new feathered friends!

Hello! Living in Pinellas County and have wanted chickens for sooooooooo long I could hardly stand it. We just got our first 2 babies. Well not baby baby they're 4 weeks. They are inside for now until they get some more feathers because for FL this 40 degree weather is way to cold! The woman that we bought them from said they could be either Iowa Blue's or Wyandotte. I've read up and looked at pics of both but heck if I know! Not do I know if I have 2 girls or 2 boys or 1 boy and 1 girl! I've read so many things on how to see if they are male or female but idk if they work so I guess I'll just wait it out! :)

Drooling. You may not realize this but you live near Greenfire Farm. Could be dangerous! ;-)
Hi Velvet!
I'm up in Baker, just west of Crestview. Welcome! As far as feed goes, I use both Tractor Supply and our local privately owned feed store. I would think Freeport would have stores. I had to chuckle when I pictured you just north of Destin...swanky chickens at the beach! I have an extra EE roo if you need one. He's about 21 weeks old, solid white. His only draw back is he has a crooked toe on each foot...it does not impair him in any way, just looks a bit odd. I'm not sure if it's a genetic thing or something that could have been corrected when he hatched. I got him at about 4 weeks and really didn't notice it until much later.
Welcome to the group! Do tell about your flock too :)
