Crystal River Mall and Rural King Farm Swap, (Next swap Saturday, August 23rd, 2014), 1801 NW US Hwy.19 Crystal River, FL 34428, (the 4th Saturday Monthly). Located in the parking lot of the Crystal River Mall next to Office Max and the main mall entrance on Hwy 19. If you are just thinking about chickens or small livestock or already have an established flock or small holding, then you won't want to miss this event. Come join us for a day of talking, swapping and selling poultry and small livestock. Meet the locals. Swap stories and information on the care and raising of your flock and small holdings. Buy/Sell/Trade anything and everything to do with poultry and small livestock. We usually have various breeds and ages of poultry, rabbits, goats and sometimes piglets. There will be cages and crafts as well as new poultry and livestock products at great prices. Hoping this past Spring has found you hatching lots of chicks. But now that you have them, what are you going to do with all of them? You pick out the best to keep for your own personal stock, you might have sold a few to neighbors for their own flocks but that still leaves you with lots of extras. Maybe this past Spring has given you baby bunnies or goat kids, or maybe even an extra calf or two. Maybe you have eating eggs or hatching eggs to sell. How about some pieces of old farm equipment, a small tractor, harrow, used tack or what have you. Maybe you have fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and trees. What are you going to do? Bring them on down to the Crystal River Mall Farm Swap. Great exposure, lots of parking, lots of potential buyers. Runs the 4th Saturday of every month, from 8am to usually around 1pm. This is a farm swap only so we ask that there are no flea market or garage sale items. You can also bring farm related craft type items like goat soaps and lotions. Tell your neighbors, tell your friends, heck we don’t care if you tell your enemies. Meet us the Crystal River Mall and Rural King Farm Swap for a beautiful day of buying, selling or swapping your farm related wares. [email protected] We also have a farm forum, Hilltop Farm Forum HilltopFarm.info.

I'm In Indialantic, so to the east on the Beach. Still looking for a home for my sweet Roo. Although someone was mentioning that it might still be a pullet. But I would be surprised. Have you ever seen a pullet with tail feathers like this??

We are just over the causway from you! What breed is that? Some breeds do have long tail feathers in males and females. How old?

That looks like a Yokohama pullet, on the small side with a small single comb, slate colored legs and, of course, those tail feathers. I have two in my flock and while skittish they are decent layers of small cream colored eggs. Watch out if she goes broody. I had one that I thought was gonna die before she finally broke out of it.

Hello from Panama City, FL!
I'm planning my first flock next spring. In the meantime, I spend hours on this site reading and studying. I especially like to read the What Breed/Gender? thread. I try to guess the breed/gender before reading the comments and then check if I'm right. I'm hoping it makes great practice for next year.
One thing I'm considering for a coop that I'd like opinions on. When we purchased our property, there are a pair of permanent dog kennels. They are about 4x4 each, roofed, floored with 2x6 lumber, fenced with chain link, about 2 ft off the ground, have people gates, and have their own dog house inside. Am I crazy to want to convert these to a chicken coop?
