Good morning, all! I have a CCLB roo..coming on two years, who just got moved from Head Honcho to bottom of pecking order. Nice boy, will quietly take treats out of my hand. I need to re-home him before he gets beaten up any more or killed. Add some color to his babies eggs. Greenfire breeding. I am in NW Ocala. Vaccinated against Mareks.

I don't know if you ever got in contact with her, but I was at the farm a few weeks ago and all of her chickens are friendly. Its amazing. I got a Blue Maran roo from her, he is the sweetest thing. He eats right out of my hand and follows me around the yard.

Hey all! I know I could post this in the Predators section but I wanna hear from fellow FL people dealing with Bobcats. Anyone have issues with bobcats during the day? Is there a sure fire way to keep the birds safe other than keeping them penned all the time or a guardian dog? I've had 1 hen taken during late morning a couple months ago while we were gone for a couple hours. Now I only let the birds free range while I'm home & even then I'm looking out the window every half hour feeling like I'm taking a big risk. I've read Hotwire doesn't help because they'll just decide to jump the fence rather than climb.

I had a bobcat kill a bunch of my pheasants. It dug under the fence. I didn't have any hot wire at the time around that pen but do now. Also I have all of my pens covered too. I have netting over the pens and so far no losses.

Hi everyone! I'm Connor. I live in Winter Haven and I just started my first flock a few months ago! I love my girls! I look forward to hearing all of your wisdom about keeping them cool in the summer time! haha

I just make sure that they have access to shade. Other than that fresh water in shallow containers( maybe a .5 in deep) for them to get a little wet. This is not their drinking water. My big black Orp will jump in lay in the water to get her fluffy feathers wet then she jumps out shakes like a dog then finds a sandy spot to lay on here back to dry. Funny looking. The smaller buffs don't like there pool other than to stand in it for a few mins than back to the shade and dust baths that we provide or under a hedge and lay up under them. I you were to see them you would think they are dead. Soon as temps drop in the evening they start to move around eat play and act like chickens. If for some reason I cannt get then out of the coup or run I turn on a small mist type sprinkler to cool the roof. If they had to be in the coop in the summer all day they would not make it. I'm lucky that they can range and find there own cool safe place out of the heat.
