FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

FINALLY! I got the first eggs in my chicken hobbyist LIFE on Saturday! They arrived (well, I found them anyway) eight months and 10 days after hatching my hens in an incubator. No sign of an egg yesterday, but here's hoping for another one today! #BlueCochinsLayLate!

The top pic shows them compared to a Walmart large egg.

Nice size pullet eggs. They may not lay every day when they first start laying. Actually it could be several days or maybe the next day, you just never know. Their bodies are adjusting to laying.

Whoo Hooo! Third time is the charm! Egg #3 was laid in the nest box! I'm so stinking excited! After 8 months of having chickens as a hobby I finally have eggs!!! Hallelujah, I have EGGS! I loved my birds before, but this makes them so much more fun!

How NW are you? There is a lady who advertises regularly in the Okaloosa/Walton CL out of Crestview. I got my Nov 15 hatch of 9 from her and have been happy with them so far.

Yes, thays Janet. Im right by her but her BAs are slow right now and she has fertile egg orders too. I may ride to Mobile or Dothan. I habe friends clise to Mobile and i live visiting Jeffers in Dothan so its no biggie. Thank yiu very much for passing her on.

Even after many years going out to collect eggs, I feel like it is Christmas every day. The last of my pullets that hatched out last summer just started laying. More Christmas presents... If you have a male you can enjoy hatching those precious eggs. Soon I will be filling up my incubator for this years hatching. I used to incubate year around but the past few years I only do it in the spring and early summer. Here are some pictures of some chicks I hatched for a friend. Good luck and have more fun...

I know it's generally preferred for the chicks not to sit in their food, but that first image with the little chick sticking out of the top of the feeder made me laugh!

That was a little Serama chick. Usually the chicks don't get into the feeders.

She must have been EXTRA hungry.

I'm getting antsy. My brooder supplies are all here and the pen is set up; just waiting till a few days before arrival to get bedding set up, will turn on the lamps and fill the feeders and waterers when I get the call that the babies are in. They're supposed to hatch February 2 and I'm brooding two separate flocks here. My aunt doesn't have any indoor space to brood them and the only outdoor space has no electricity for the lamp, so I offered to brood hers here with mine. Separate brooders to hopefully cut down on any pecking order issues when we separate the flocks at 8-10 weeks, or whenever the last chick is feathered enough to go out to coop. (Between us, nine chicks and five breeds.)
