I think the birds were locked inside the coop but the feeder were outside.

I let my birds out every day to roam in the pasture. In the evenings when I collect the eggs, everyone gets treats, they come running when they see me with their treat bucket and go right into their pens for their treats.

We lost our water a few days ago. Our pump died. My biggest concern was water for the birds. I took a large trash can cleaned it out at my neighbors and filled it with water. We had a hole in it because we had used it in the past for water. All of my coops have auto waterers. We let gravity work for us and the birds waterers had water. We were without water for a few days.

Hurricanes have knocked out our pressure tank - no water. I have two wells so was able to have water for the horses and others but no water in the house. We have since built a very strong structure over the well area that serves the house and cut down trees that may fall on it. The other thing I did - I put in an old-fashioned hand pump. No electricity or pump or pressure tank needed!

I looked out my back window yesterday, because my roosters were going crazy. I have never seen this beautiful male in my back yard before. I wonder if someone is missing him or is he wild? Every feather looks perfect, too perfect. I waited an hour after he left my back yard to let the chickens out. He was calling for over an hour and pecking around a tree, looking at me. I didn't know if he would go after my chicken or me. He was good and kept his distance from us. I just loved it!

AWWW!!! Very cool. The peacock I thought I was rescuing has been rescued by someone that already has peacocks so it is good for him. I researched peacocks. They will walk home from wherever you move them so have to keep them enclosed for at least a week. They are not high maintenance, but need lots of room and trees to roost in. I hope some day to be able to get pheasants and peacocks would be nice as well, as long as I have the appropriate housing for all of them!

Okay, Spent the early evening/late afternoon having cinco de mayo with our chickens, Don't worry, no under aged chickens were allowed to drink alcoholic beverages....

So my husband decided to replace our latest baby buff orpington who was attacked with not one but two new little ladies. A Golden Laced Wyandotte we have named Truffles and a Wellsummer we have named Snickers.

And their toes are good! Never knew a chick could have crooked feet, now that is the first thing I look for!

So, dilemma. Help! I have a hen who went into the box last night where another hen lays her eggs. This hen has not laid an egg yet. She is 6 months old. The other two six month old hens have been laying for at least 6 weeks. She has not come out of the box all day. There are no eggs in there, I gather my two eggs from the two hens that lay every day. I have fed her by hand and given her water by hand, she seems alert and ok but what is going on? Should I manually remove her from the box to check her over?

If she's willing to let you take her out and examine, it cant hurt. Maybe she's just gone broody?

I have questioned my faith many times but I pray with my kids every meal and I tell them about Jesus. However, there is the what if...
This evening a tree fell in our backyard and crushed our fence and the run part of our coop. One of our EE's was trapped and had a banged up comb but other than that she's fine. Our other girls were never touched. The tree also missed our house by inches and the top missed our neighbors by about 2 feet. Now, I have to say I can't question anymore because we are all safe and there has to be a bigger hand in it.

In the picture we have cleared most of it and rescued our EE but tomorrow we have to start again and as upset as I was, knowing it could've been worse makes it much easier to deal with.
