Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh . . . there are no local farms and I don't want chicks. I just want fresh eggs. Which I cannot eat for 30 days anyway since worming them - I am going to have to toughen up, take that egg away, and hope she snaps to. At least she is eating out of my hand and drinking a little water from a milk bottle cap. She was pretty much catatonic for a bit there. When I took her out of the box this morning she just stayed exactly the same on the ground wouldn't get up and I had to pick her back up and put her back in the box. Her mind is firmly set on hatching eggs!!! Maybe I could rent her out to people who want chicks but do not have broody hens . . . ; )
I am taking her out of her box every morning, remove the box, she runs around and eats and poops and drinks, I replace the box and she hops back in. At night I feed her by hand and give her water. High Maintenance Hen! I named her Martha but may change it to "Diva".I've seen online where people dunk in ice water baths... the Chicken Chick seems to have more humane sounding methods.
Hey there! Just a bit south of Wellington. Are you going to let your quail free range?New to BYC, although I have been stalking off and on for a couple years.
Getting re-established in Jupiter, Palm Beach.
Focusing mainly on quail, and maybe ducks...other parcel may get some chickens as well, depending on the neighbors.
Thanks for all yall's insight and sharing!
By the look on his face in the picture, he will not be doing that any time again soon! Poor little bugger. Until he starts eating your chicks, then rotten opossum! That's what I was saying to my husband. I think he fell off and just took cover where he found some first. Was probably in there shortly after or just before the chooks headed in for the night.
I do not have enough experience but she is a very beautiful chicken! Post pics as she gets older, she is going to be spectacular!Any votes on what this chicken is? It was sold as an Ameraucana, but I wonder if it's got some silkie in it. Or maybe a feather development issue. She's a month old and eats well. - Also, is anyone else having issues posting pictures with this new format? Having to link to my Facebook for the pic.

I would post on the ameraucana thread. But my experience with ameraucanas is if it doesn't come from a respected breeder more then likely it is an EE. Ameraucana's are the only breed that you can breed 2 pure ameraucana and get an EE. If they spell it wrong, not an a proved color are sings of EE's. I spent a lot of $ to only find out I had gotten over priced EE'S. I was very heart broken but love them (as it was not their fault. Solely my own for not doing more research before buying. Yeah the seller did sell mine as ameraucana but if I would of know more I would of known different) from what I can tell she isn't a ameraucana but an EE. There is an thread for EE's and some for ameraucana's they may be able to help better then I can. Cute little one you have thereAny votes on what this chicken is?
