FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I am in an agricultural area of Alachua county (just north of Gainesville) so we are lucky here that we can have as many as we want..... of course it would be hard to compete with the neighbors who raise camels (and a zebra) to name a few of their exotics. They have a permit for some of the stranger things.....

Hey Jess,

She doesnt look good in the videos uyou posted. How is she doing tonight? Vaccinating now wont help her or the others living with her asthey have been exposed. You will want to clean everything they have been near before any new hatches are put in anything these first hatches were in or near.

Shellie,

They have oyster shell and eat the same laying mash and scratch the other girls have. Everything is the same they just don't lay. Lately they have been getting lots of lettuce from bolting garden, which they love. They do go into coop and stand in line while laying boxes occupied by others...............just never do anything. We have checked the area where they free range and find no eggy gifts.

Yes, Dimlet finally figured out how to use the ramp to get into coop and they have blended well with the other girls. They are also the first to go to bed at night and snuggle on top rung of rooster with my other RIR. They also are not as friendly as others and scoot away if they think you might try to pick them up. Others come and squat in front of you when they want to be held.

hhmm, I have an EE who hides her eggs, xcept now that they are on sand her egg cant be hidden in the pine shavings like before. She is an odd girl for sure alwys lays in the corner never the nest box.

Other than not finding eggs currently do they good otherwise? When merging flocks or introducing new stock I have read it can take 6weeks to 2 months for them to really settle in when of laying age. No idea why, you would think when they are accepted b the flock all would be good.

Try posting in the egg laying thread, maybe someone there will have some idea. Since they just came of laying age last fall this is their first spring and should be doing their job.

that's why I was looking for a vaccine for the little ones. I can't clean my whole yard dirt etc. They free range so I really want to vaccinate anyone I can. The others with her aren't showing signs so I am still hopefull that she has a neurological problem. She doesn't has any other Mareks symptoms like coughing or wheezing.

She's been this way for a couple of weeks now. I don't know how long it would take for her to show other signs/symptoms if it's Mareks or even something else

Just online and it comes in large amounts. 1000 cc I think and it only takes .2 cc per chick sooo I'm not thinking it's economical for me to buy for 10-15 babies

Hello from Lafayette County, FL
Getting the work done to start the chicken family. First had to open a place for coop and run. That meant a tractor, some clearing, etc. Hadn't operated a tractor in over 30 years, so having fun with that! Just about done opening up the poultry parcel.

Next some selective cutting beyond my ability/inclination. Then we'll fence that half acre or so, and add electric fence to it AND the 4 acres that have been the fenced homestead for 50+ years. Hoping that solves coyote fears, and will help w coons and possums, too. Will run water and power as later phase of project (coop will be close enough to pumphouse to run hose for now)

I hope to get to that point in the next few weeks or a month. Then, finally a coop; I keep changing plans for that. Maybe a "main house/ run" and smaller "brooding parlor" for when that day finally arrives. We want a small dual purpose flock; thinking one or two each of BR, RIR, EE, and a couple of BO for brooding. But Wyandottes might be nice too. This small flock could get out of hand quickly!!! Not sure about the roo...

Anyhow, still time to consider all the breed choices, and availability will in fact determine outcome.

Hope to meet some of you at a swap somewhere soon.
