I wanted to share my latest list of "local sources" with you. It's constantly evolving! If you have any suggestions, please share.
If you are interested in self-sufficient practices of raising your own food, check out Funky Chicken Farms in West Melbourne. They have all sorts of composting & gardening classes available, as well as a seed bank containing many heirloom varieties, & poultry galore. "The Urban Hillbilly" in North Brevard wants to share her love of urban homesteading with the world. She offers EVERYTHING from cloth diapering to chicken cooping and aquaponics, she can teach you how to do it all! Recently I started my own urban homesteading project of raising backyard chickens. So far, so good, & very much a learning process. Unfortunately I am lacking in the tools & construction category, so I ordered an awesome coop off craigslist. David, the coop crafter, is all set up to build you a coop that won't let you down (or your future birds.) If you are interested in backyard chickening, here's the best place to start... buying a locally made coop, of course.... http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/grd/2530757327.html Search "cute coop" under Space Coast Craigslist to see his other sizes. Also great for other outdoor pets such as rabbits.
The best & easiest all in one stop shop for LOCAL FOOD is the Brevard Farmer's Market at the Wickham Pavilion next to the Brevard Community College Melbourne Campus. This market is open Thursdays from 3-7. http://brevardcountyfarmersmarket.com/ When I finally got to visit, my only regret was that I hadn't gone sooner!!! Arrive as early as you can b/c they sell out of stuff like eggs and raw milk rather quickly.
Occasional vendors at the market include:
Funky Chicken Farms, prepared food stands, natural soap stands, hand made baskets, etc...
Green Flamingo in Oak Hill- Free range chicken, eggs, they have a CSA operation going and they could teach you more about that. Contact:

There is a vendor at the Wickham Pavillion Farmer's market who sells the same raw milk for pet consumption as Heart of Christmas. it's $9 a gallon. Not sure what Christmas is charging these days. I urge you to compare, it is the same milk but Heart of Christmas repackages it.
One of my favorite vendors visits the market once a month- they are a family offering forage-finished beef that is very yummy. http://www.deeprootsmeat.com
Maple Street Natives is a local nursery specializing in native plants. They also have edible plants available, & grown organically and most likely biodynamically. The owner is very helpful with any gardening questions, concerns, or ideas. She's VERY experienced in gardening. http://www.maplestreetnatives.com/ Look for her & all the above at the market.
Another local market I have yet to shop is the Green Marketplace in Cocoa. I hear it's fabulous & they even have a petting zoo! Learn more about that here: http://www.naturewiseplants.com/location.html
Other Sources for local foods:
Eatwild.com and localharvest.org are great resources for local foods. I've also had success finding eggs and beef on craigslist in other towns. Not so much here, but haven't checked in awhile. Skimming real quick, I found this ad offering reasonably priced eggs: http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/grd/2570145882.html
SeaBreeze Organic Farm offers off the highway delivery for several nourishing foods, including broths, fermented foods, eggs, milks, cheeses, and meats. Their contact is [email protected] . They deal in quick transactions.
I purchase my beef from the Dam Ranch in Bradenton. Kind of a trek, unless you plan on being around the Tampa area anyway. The farmer sells really tasty grass-fed beef, and the farmer will set aside fat and bones for you for free if you request. He's also set aside chicken feet for me. Those are great to throw in a stock. He sells some goat milk products, pastured poultry, pork and totally free range eggs, too.
I've been told by several people that Crazy Heart Ranch is a wonderful purveyor of free-range meats. I have yet to try them personally, but here is their website: http://www.crazyhartranch.com/
I have a few more places in FL you can purchase meat, but none are very local. Let me know if there's any other areas of possible interest for you or specific things you're looking for.
EATING OUT:
There are not any restaurants that I know of serving local food, however, Nature's Market cafe offers some organic options, as well as real sourdough bread, & occasional raw dairy products. http://www.naturesmarketmelbourne.com/
Happy Healthy Human has a few sprouted & "raw" grain alternative products, as well as twice weekly organic food boxes for fruits, veggies, & even boxes specific to things like juicing. http://www.happyhealthyhuman.com/
The Jungle in Indiatlantic is part small, boutiquey health food market, part restaurant. It has very nice ambiance, a rarity among organic restaurants.http://www.jungleorganic.com/
